Squarehue April 2013: Bloom Collection Swatches

SquareHue is a nail polish subscription box, like Julep Maven, except everyone gets the same colors and the colors are limited edition.  They are exclusive to that month and you can't get those colors any other way except through that box.  The box is $21 per month and a portion of your subscription is donated through their HueGive program, which is currently focusing on human trafficking.  The donations go towards prevention awareness, protection of trafficked victims, and prosecution of human traffickers.

After seeing all the great March SquareHue boxes, I was really tempted to sign up...so I did.  So I have swatches of my first ever SquareHue box today!  When I saw the theme of this month's SquareHue box, I was expecting at least 1 pink polish, so it was quite surprising to find none when I opened the box.  Nevertheless, these colors are still very Spring-y!

Yellow Submarine is a bright pastel sunshine yellow that has a subtle shimmer in the bottle, but when on the nail you can't even see it.  As with most yellows, this one was a pain to apply.  It was a streaky mess!  I used 4 coats to try to even it out, but in the end, I had to rely on Seche Vite for a smooth, shiny finish.

Flower Power is a lime green polish with a creme finish that reminds me of grass!  This one had the best application for me.  There wasn't really any streakyness, but I did have some bald spots, so I used 3 coats for the swatch.  I also applied 1 coat of Seche Vite to finish it off.

Groovy Love is a pretty lavender color with a creme finish.  The application on this one was okay, but still a bit streaky.  It evened out in 3 coats, and I applied 1 coat of Seche Vite to finish it off and add shine.  This is not that unique of a shade, but it was my favorite in this month's box.

I don't think these are all that unique, and you can probably find dupes with better application (except for the yellow, maybe).  However, I do like the SquareHue bottles and the idea of limited edition colors, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's in future boxes!  Also, I'm glad I switched my April Julep Maven to Classic with a Twist this month.  The colors in the It Girl box were pretty much the same color scheme as this SquareHue box:  yellow, green, and purple.  Swatches of my Classic with a Twist box and add-ons are coming soon! :)

P.S. I'm experimenting with logos and watermarks.  Let me know what you think!
